Things to do on Route-66- On the Way to Grand Canyon

Hello Everyone,

Today I am sharing part of our memorable trip from California to Grand Canyon, Arizona. When we were planning the trip we definitely wanted to add a day’s worth drive on the Historic route 66.

We started our route 66 adventure in Kingman, Az. We stopped at the Power house visitor center and museum and picked up the flyers and information booklets from the center. The Route 66 shield in the picture below is near the visitor center.

Across the road was the Locomotive park and we thought we would check it out for a few minutes. But it turns out to be the best part of my daughter’s day playing around the train with some new friends she made. While you are not allowed to climb on the train , you can definitely walk around and take pictures from the outside.

Hackberry General Store

After we drove from Kingman, Hackberry General Store was the next stop we made. Don’t forget to check out the retro gas pumps in front of the store.

Williams

Who doesn’t wish to see the city that inspired the favorite Disney Cars movie? When you are on the route 66 you will definitely want to stop by Williams. The city is fun to walk around with lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. You can check out the road shows happening usually at evenings. With its close proximity to the Grand Canyon , Williams is a perfect place to book a hotel if you are planning to visit Grand Canyon.

A few other places to visit near Williams :

Grand Canyon Railway

You can book yourself a train ride to Grand Canyon South and enjoy the beautiful views along the way. This way you could avoid the traffic and parking troubles when you reach the park.

Bearizona

Bearizona is a fun place to visit especially if you are traveling with kids. You need at least 2-3 hours to explore the park. You can find more information on that in my previous post here.

Pete’s Route 66 Gas Station Museum
