15 best places to shop for maternity clothes

Hello! If you are here you probably are pregnant, congratulations!! or shopping for someone who is pregnant. Finding maternity clothes can sometime be a tedious task. Not all retailers make maternity clothes and some of them look so saggy and unflattering that you kind of feel miserable regarding the clothes on top of the fatigue and other things that comes with pregnancy. Today, I am sharing 15 best places to shop for your maternity wardrobe that makes clothes that are comfortable yet stylish.

When should I buy maternity clothes?

If you ask me, I am a minimalist when it comes to maternity clothes (not otherwise, I am getting there :P). I feel that you only wear them for a few months and stow it away probably for your next pregnancy. And then there are changing trends which I am sure we will make you add more to your wardrobe the next time around. I also believe in adding quality pieces to my wardrobe.

You can probably stretch out your non- maternity wardrobe for the first trimester. The real need starts when you actually start showing. So the best time to shop would be in your second trimester. Another suggestion would be to just buy a few things first and not your entire wardrobe. Because you might add on more pounds as you go and might have to go for larger sizes.

What should a normal maternity wardrobe look like?

It depends on the season during which you are pregnant. If you are pregnant mostly during the summer, I would go for flowy comfortable dresses. If most part of your pregnancy falls during winter then definitely go for jeans and tops. Leggings are a must have anytime of the year. Another tip is to buy nursing tops or dresses which will go beyond your pregnancy and help you get the most out of your purchase.

It also depends on what you do.That is if you are working you will probably need more work clothes . If you are a housewife like me, here is what you will need.Couple of comfortable dresses, 2 pairs of cycling shorts that can be worn underneath the dresses, 2 pairs of leggings, a few plain soft t-shirts, a nice pretty top for occasional wear, two pairs of jeans/shorts (for summer pregnancy) plus a beautiful outfit for maternity photoshoot. This is just a minimal maternity wardrobe which you can build on to or take things off like you wish.

Now coming on to the places where you can shop. Here we go!

If you are looking for those flown maternity gown for maternity photoshoot, then this is probably where you should be looking. They have the most cute, comfortable and trendiest outfits. ZARA

Update: I wrote this post quite some time ago.Looks like ZARA has stopped making maternity clothes.I didn’t find them anywhere on their website. But don’t let it stop you from buying clothes at ZARA, their non maternity dresses are so flown and comfortable that you will be able to make them work all through your pregnancy.

Who doesn’t love ZARA’s off the runway chic clothes? Well, luckily they do make maternity clothes as well. Love their flow midi and maxi chiffon dresses.
