DIY – No stich Baby Apron (Simple and easy)

dsc_0031babyapronblog

I was planning to surprise my husband with a video of me and the baby decorating his home baked Birthday cake. It’s looks so cute when babies wear apron and act like they are little master chefs. So I wanted to have an apron for the baby as well and that’s when I thought I would take this as a DIY project instead of searching through various online shopping sites to find one. I decided to use one of her receiving blankets which she no longer uses.

I am not that good at tailoring and I do not  have much idea on taking measurements too.So ,searched up on the internet to get an idea on what would be the appropriate measurements for a baby/toddler apron but gave up when I couldn’t find what I was looking for.So, I grabbed the measuring tape and started by measuring my little girl.

I did not want to hand stitch it either as it would take plenty of time to complete.Hence I went for a fabric glue. So,this DIY would be for someone like me who wants a quick and easy way to have an apron.

Here is what you will need:

1.Receiving Blanket/any cloth of the same size

2.Fabric Glue( I used the Faber Castell)

3.A pair of cloth scissors

4.Fabric paint and paint brush

5.Newspaper

6.Scale and a pen/marker

7.Satin ribbons

8.Measuring tape

9.Velcro strips

10.Stencils with cute designs

11.Iron box to iron the cloth before use.

STEP 1:

Take your measuring tape and note down your baby’s measurements. You would need to take the length from the chest till knee and the width. Also take measurements for the halter around the neck from the chest and back to the from from the other side.

STEP 2:

Draw the measurements on the newspaper using a pen/marker according to the measurements plus an extra inch on each side to be able to fold it inwards and glue the sides.Cut along the markings.

STEP 3:

Iron the cloth well and place the newspaper cutting on it and mark according to the measurements. Then cut it along the markings.Keep the remaining cloth from the sides for preparing the ties at the back and around the neck.

It looks something like this.

STEP 4:

Glue all the sides using the fabric glue.

STEP 5:

Now it’s painting time!! I just found these stencils at a local super market and used the same. You might also get some bigger designs or an alphabet stencil and paint your baby’s name on the apron.

Choose the colours you want and paint them randomly all over the apron.

STEP 6:

It’s time to make the tie back and the halter neck. For the tie back cut two sets of  2-3 inch width cloth with the desired length(at least 12inches) .Glue half way along the width and then glue it to the apron on each sides.

Similarly, cut another pair of 2 inch wide cloth and the length same as the measurement ( around the neck ) taken in STEP1. Glue one end of each strip to the apron. On the other ends glue the velcro strip.Or you can simply chose to leave it as halter neck .

STEP 7:

Now it’s time for more beautification.Use the satin ribbon and get creative.I just chose to place a bow in the front. And Now it’s all ready!! (My daughter pulled out a part of the bow so you only see the other half in the pic).

This project took me around 3-4 hours to complete. And once done you might have to wait for 24 hours for the glue to dry.The packaging of the fabric glue says we will have to wait for a week until you wash the cloth after using the glue.

This may not be the perfect apron but the enthusiasm and fun in making it on your own is something more important for me.

Have you tried making a baby/kid apron on your own? Let me know, leave a comment below and you can send me pics too.
