Apple Picking – Clearview Orchard,Watsonville

ApplePickingPost4There is a lot happening this month, I have lot of things on my to-do list. One of the things on my list was to go to an apple orchard for apple picking and we did it this weekend. It feels so good to be able to check things off your list 🙂

We were considering two orchards, a couple of them were already closed for the year. After looking into everything, I chose the Clearview Orchard at Watsonville for two reasons one, it was close by compared to the other one around 50 miles from where we live and very close to the freeway exit. Two, they had my favorite kind of apples –  the Fuji’s. ApplePicking2015Post1The host who greeted us was very polite and when we said that it was our first time he briefly explained all about the orchard. They also had a fifteen year old turtle on the orchard, that was totally unexpected and the little one loved it. As we went down the terrace of apple trees I was surprised to see the short apple trees bearing the bunch of apples. I was expecting very tall trees and really having to jump up and reach for the apples. Haha!! , that was exactly what I had in mind.

ApplePickingPost3Our toddler was well informed and knew what exactly we were there for. She started picking the apples from the ground while, I was still looking at the trees and thinking where to start. Like a true apple picker the toddler picked what was at her reach by crawling , bending and jumping! I was able to show her the apple eaten by snails and caterpillars so that she could see what she had heard in stories back home. This continued for a good half hour and after that the toddler was too distracted to be picking apples. The twigs and the loose gravel seemed more interesting. ApplePickingPost6

Finally we picked a few pounds of apples, I was not very happy with them but considering that this is not a good year for apples the ones we picked were okay. The experience was great!! We then headed to the pumpkin patch they had set up. It was very pleasant out there with the beautiful view of Watsonville valley, great looking pumpkins and a tiny play area for the kiddos. I have to mention they also had a stall selling fresh produce, pure honey, lavender bunches and apple butter.

ApplePickingPost5A great way to spend the day with a toddler.
