Sonoma Lavender barn open house-2016

Hello Everyone!!

This spring/summer, visiting a lavender field had been on top of my bucket list. June is the month for the lavender festivals everywhere .We chose the Lavender Barn at Sonoma as it was the closest to where we live. They had open house on the 18th and 19th of June and also on the 25th and 26th of June but the latter was cancelled due to traffic issues.

The place was so crowded the day we were there . Since we got there within half an hour from the opening of the event we were able to enter and park within 20 minutes of wait. As we entered the the field, there were the beautiful rows of lavender ,with bees buzzing everywhere. I have never my life seen so many bees at once. The view is simply superb!! Even though the place was crowded it felt really calm and therapeutic just to be present there.I am not a big fan of lavender scent but I just love the color!!

The best part of the open house was that, they offered U-cut lavender bunches for a reasonable price. I really enjoyed being able to cut my own flowers as though I was in my own backyard. I had no clue how or which ones to choose so, I went ahead and picked the ones with lot of flowers and looked darker than the rest. My little girl loved this too, she was happy to hold the lavender bunch I had just cut. If you are planning a mommy-daughter date, this could be the perfect activity for any age.

The fields were pretty small and as the crowd grew it was hard to move around but they had a little garden/picnic area past the lavender field. That was the perfect place for my toddler to run around and have a little fun of her own.

They also offered merchandise at a discount at the gift shop but there was a huge line to enter and we didn’t get a chance to check out the gift shop. On the downside, there were no restrooms for the visitors which is something very much required when you have young children especially after long drives.

Keeping the extreme heat, crowd and traffic apart the whole experience was one of a kind for us.This was our first time seeing a lavender field and we left the place happy and relaxed!!!
